Job Description
The Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu Transforming the Environment through Nexus (LISTEN) is a project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nairobi and implemented by a consortium of partners comprising Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation with SNV as the lead agency. The 3.5-year project seeks to contribute to enhanced resilience by increasing food, nutrition and water security in the three selected Arid and Semi‐Arid Lands (ASAL) counties of Laikipia, Isiolo and Samburu in Kenya. Identify and evaluate existing rangeland and grazing plans agreements considering gender inclusion. Analyze the key livestock value chains in considering gender inclusion. Find out the status of county government and community based harmonized grazing arrangements and herd mobility strategies and identify prevailing gaps and any best practice for benchmarking and upscaling Identify the existing county policy and legal frameworks responsible for safeguarding an enabling environment for harmonized grazing management systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Identify and examine the inter/intra county grazing coordination mechanisms and existing challenges and opportunities
- Identify gaps and propose strategic entry point for policy interventions to contribute for sustainable rangeland and grazing plans management, Make recommendations on future direction on livestock production and investment that could include climate change funding
Education + Experience
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields : livestock related studies , rangeland and natural resources management, climate change, agriculture , or related field and not less than 8 years’ experience
- A masters degree with will be added advantage
