Job Description

Reporting to the Editor, Social, Search & Analytics, the job holder will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing social media trends, conversations, and engagement related to news topics. He/She will share insights and recommendations critical in shaping our news coverage and optimizing our social media strategy.


Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and analyze social media platforms for trending news topics, conversations, and audience engagement.

    • Identify relevant news stories, discussions, and user-generated content on social media that align with our newsroom's goals and editorial guidelines.

    • Conduct real-time monitoring and reporting of breaking news events, emerging trends, and viral content to support newsroom decision-making.

    • Provide regular reports and analysis on social media performance metrics, engagement trends, and audience demographics to help optimize content strategies.

    • Collaborate with editors, journalists, and producers to incorporate social media insights into news coverage, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and timeliness.

    • Stay updated with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices 
       
      to recommend innovative strategies and tactics for audience growth and engagement.

    • Implement and manage social media tracking tools and analytics platforms to gather data and generate actionable insights.

    • Monitor competitor activities and industry trends in social media usage by news organizations, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.

    • Assist in the development and implementation of social media campaigns, contests, and interactive features to enhance audience participation and brand awareness.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field;

    • Proven work experience as a Social Media Analyst, Social Media Manager, or similar role in a newsroom or media organization;

    • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools;

    • Excellent knowledge of current events, news cycles, and audience preferences;

    • Proficient in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to derive actionable insights;

    • Familiarity with social media monitoring and management tools;

    • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt quickly to changing priorities;

    • Experience in newsroom operations, journalism, or related fields;

    • Familiarity with SEO principles and content optimization strategies for social media platforms;

    • Knowledge of media ethics, copyright laws, and privacy regulations as they relate to social media content;

    • Proficiency in using social media listening and sentiment analysis tools.
